I’m Sure the NBA’s New Streaming Partners Loved This Adam Silver Quote

I belted out an audible Roblox "oof" noise when I saw this.

On the list of ways you could reverse the negative connotation associated with the NBA's regular season, this response probably fell in last place.

Have you ever walked into a room of 20-somethings and admitted you watch NBA regular season basketball nightly? It's a one way ticket to becoming ostracized.

"Why would I waste my time, I can just catch the highlights on Twitter (X?)".

This is the main rebuttal I hear from people that oppose the idea of just sitting down on a Wednesday evening and watching an NBA game during the regular season. I won't necessarily blame anyone for the point of you. An 82 game schedule is a lot, and it's not everyone's cup of tea.

(Although, most of those people use that time instead to just doom scroll Tik Tok, so I'm not sure we need to throw stones from glass houses. To each their own is what I say!)

One thing the NBA has done to make the league more accessible is adding more primetime games with the addition of new partners like NBC and Amazon Prime. There will be more NBA games on broadcast television than there has been in quite some time, and Amazon Prime is one of the biggest streaming services in America. I definitely think this is a step in the right direction in regards to bringing in the casual eyeballs.

However, this has opened up another can of worms in the eyes of the casual fan. Tax collector Adam comes a'knockin, baseball bat in hand, ready to take your hard earned cash to watch the Cavs play the 76er's on Peacock.

This is why Silver leaning into the highlights league discussion is so bizarre. Don't wanna pay for our new providers? Just watch the highlights on TikTok for FREE. Sure this made the people at NBC and Amazon feel really good about all the money they just gave the NBA.

The only way you're going to make the regular season truly meaningful to the casual fan is to shorten it. But they will never do it. Let's not dig our grave with these comments, Adam.
