The new season of "Starting 5" debuts on October 16th, and it has the makings of an instant classic.
If you're unfamiliar with the show, Netflix camaras followed 5 players around for the entirety of the 2024-2025 NBA season. Those players include Tyrese Haliburton, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Kevin Durant, Jaylen Brown, and James Harden.
The prevailing storyline will be that the star players from both Finals teams will be featured. Shai and the Thunder had an historic regular season, and the Pacers had a playoff run the likes of which we may never see again. It all culminates in a Game 7 of the Finals that I probably will not be able to watch because I don't think I can relive the pain and agony I experienced.
Kevin Durant's tumultuous season as a member of the Phoenix Suns will be featured. A star player on a sinking ship, where trade rumors escalated around the trade deadline. It will be interesting to get an inside-baseball look into that drama. The trailer also details how he equates his Twitter scuffles with his morning coffee. Should be fun.
Jaylen Brown navigates the season after winning the title the previous year. Going from the hunter to the hunted as they try to overcome the "year after winning it all slump". Heartbreak is bound to be sprinkled in at the end of his timeline when Jason Tatum goes down.
And then there's the beard. Who knows what he's going to get into. The trailer shows him being pulled over for speeding on his way to the game, with a clip of the goofy interaction with the cop.
Whether it be script conspiracies or otherwise, Netflix nailed the casting for season 2. Grab ya popcorn.
